VIRTUAL INSANITY?
dotmusic.com
They sing, they dance, but exist only in cyberspace. Get ready for the virtual pop star.
For those of you who assumed that S Club 7 were the last word in manufactured pop, think again. Put together not by a svengali manager but by computer programmers, T-Babe and E-Cyas are the ultimate teen acts. They'll never get spots, turn up late or be found legless on the steps of the Met Bar (although T-Babe describes herself as "an occasional drinker").
To view T-Babe you'll need the Flash plugin. A music video is still in the making, leaving visitors free to gawp at her badly-bleached virtual barnet. But according to label GlasgowRecords.com, T-Babe is "a cyber sensual creature that is the epitome of womankind", who bases her lyrics on "a host of 20th Century childrenšs rhymes."
T-Babe's main competitor is German Antonio Banderas lookalike E-Cyas, the "Electronic Cybernetic Artificial Superstar".
His video, "Are U Real", can be viewed in the Real format on E-Cyas.com. Cy puts in a performance more stilted than a Tomb Raider intro screen, but the song itself has been has already been circulating around the club scene. Dotmusic's dance section, reviewing one of the mixes, said that the vocal "... puts blood in your veins".
The electonic pop star listens to Kraftwerk and has a cruel sense of humour, joking in one interview that Jesus Christ "looks like one of those long-haired grunge freaks... a bit like the singer from the Spin Doctors".
But does E-Cyas know that he is nothing more than a thinly-veiled marketing vehicle for community chat site Cycosmos.com? The fans in his discussion room don't seem to care. They're busy concentrating on more pressing issues-such as "Do you have a girlfriend?" and "Never cut your hair!".
