BRAIN FREE CALLING

musicbank.net

Last year, brain cancer fears prompted mobile phone users to buy themselves remote earpieces. Now our streets are overrun with businessman marching up and down shouting into thin air looking to all the world like raving lunatics. In another age these people would have been carted away to Bedlam quicker than you can shout "I'm on the bus!"

Anyway, a report in the Telegraph claims that Temco, a Japanese company, has found a way to take hands-free communications to the edge. Using "bone conduction technology", callers listen through their skulls.

The headgear sits on the temple rather like the Borg implants worn by Seven of Nine in 'Star Trek: Voyager' and sounds are transmitted through the bone directly into the auditory system.

There is also a high-powered system for motorbike riders called, quite frighteningly, "Bone Knockers".
