BOO TO THE FAT CATS
musicbank.net
What's up with all those cold-hearted corporations, going after the little guys for their domain names?
Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Disney are well-known for shutting down unofficial websites, as are Sony Records on behalf of bands such as Oasis. Now Warner Brothers are on the offensive against fans of JK Rowling's wizard character Harry Potter.
The film company is demanding that domains such as harrypotterisawizard.co.uk be transferred immediately. Warners have the right to any potential Potter movie and it is thought that they close sites in an attempt to prevent the circulation of rumours and negative reviews.
However, as with a similar case wherein the BBC clamped down on Teletubbies sites, Warners' motives seem churlish to say the least. To add insult to injury, there is no official Harry Potter site from Warner and visits to harrypotter.net are directed to generic corporate page.
