LOVE LETTER musicbank.net BT, Vodafone, NASA, the BBC and everyone else with Outlook Express were trampled by last week's Love Bug worm. Apart from CCing itself to everyone in your inbox the bug has the power to hide your MP3 files. A state of terror emerged in the Napster discussion rooms, with those poor old Metallica fans fearing the worst. Is it safe to swap MP3s any more? Perhaps the Love Letter was an evil plot hatched by Metallica or the RIAA to destroy Napster's credibility.... and so on. The thought of Lars Ulrich staying up late into the night programming a virus, powered by coffee and Pepsi, is somewhat amusing. But to cap it all, Napster's servers went down over the weekend, leaving users fearful that the software really has seen its last days.
