RONNIE BIGGS Amended 7 June 2000 On May 16 2001, I wrote the following incorrect claims: "Ronnie Biggs, lovable rogue and British folk hero, robbed a train and coshed its driver over the head with an iron bar. The driver never recovered and died shortly after; Ronnie escaped for a life in the Brazilian sun only to return when he needed to use Britain's glorious health service. What a geezer!" I would now like to set right the allegations above, which were misinformed. As is clear from the Ronnie Biggs website and other media reports, Mr. Biggs was not personally involved in violence during the robbery, did not cause injury to anyone, and was not accused of such. For me to suggest otherwise was lax and simply not in line with the facts. I would like to apologise unreservedly to the family of Ronnie Biggs and particularly his son Michael Biggs for any offence or hurt that my incorrect statements may have caused. The article was intended not as a direct attack on Ronnie Biggs or Michael Biggs but instead as a satire on some newspapers' portrayal of alleged criminals as heroes. Sincerely, tobyslater I am very offended by the way this site has irresponsibly portrayed my father Ronald Biggs. It clearly shows that you people put anything up without even wasting 5 minutes of your time to search for the facts. If any of the readers or editors would like to learn a bit more about my fathers life you should at least look for proper information, and to compare him with those murderess shows the lack of interest for the truth on your behalf. To start with my father never stepped foot on the train, so for you to accuse him of hitting the driver can put you in a bad legal position, Mr Mills (the Driver) died of Leukaemia 7 years later So to call my father a murderer is also a crime, he received a 55 year sentence for unarmed robbery the funny thing is: if your child is molested the accused will probably get away with 8 years so much for British justice. I would suggest that you visit his web site www.ronniebiggs.com and start being decent to your readers and tell the truth instead of making stories up. I do not believe that you will have the balls to put this e-mail up on your site and show your readers that you can also make mistakes.
