>THE PRICE OF FAME

A journalist from the Washington Post (total estimated readership 2 million) agrees to interview a first-time novelist, but only on the understanding that the author's creation is described as "the worst novel ever published in the English language".

>>THOUGHT OF THE WEAK: photographs of the protest

discuss on the messageboard: http://www.tobyslater.com/board

I'll give you a break from the wordy rants this week - though not from the war talk, unfortunately! Here are some pictures taken at last Saturday's enormous anti-war march through London. I bought a bodhran - an Irish drum - to play while walking. ("We're just the ones who bang drums and sing love songs".)

http://www.tobyslater.com/downloadable/030215protest/d.jpg
- This was the biggest demo I've ever been on, with at least a million people taking part. It was also the quietest, due perhaps to the large number of first-timers and people across the social spectrum. A peaceful peace march.

http://www.tobyslater.com/downloadable/030215protest/a.jpg
- One of the most encouraging things about an event of this size is the fact that Moslems, Christians and even some Jews march side by side, united in the desire for peace despite the historical divisions between their religions.

http://www.tobyslater.com/downloadable/030215protest/a.jpg
- It wasn't a pro-environment march, unfortunately, which is why people left a lot of mess around.

http://www.tobyslater.com/downloadable/030215protest/c.jpg
- Apparently an actress from the Lord of the Rings film was there; I didn't notice her. Probably too busy looking at these horses.

>UN WEAPONS INSPECTORS NEEDED IN OMAHA

While George Bush stresses the need to disarm Saddam and other 'Axis of Evil' nations, America is planning on acquiring some new weapons of mass destruction: a fresh nuclear (sorry, nookyoular) arsenal which is bound to contradict the non-proliferation treaty America is signed up to.

Click on Tracks-->Snowflakes remixes-->Just Jack vs Cure

Remix by Eddy Temple Morris pitting the lyrical spitting of Jack Allsop against the Cure's "Lullaby"... out this week, go to a shop and buy the CD.

>>>POO FLAGS

Probably the least visible (and most pungent) protest in today's political arena - decorating dog turds with American flags:

>> ROCKING ALL THE WAY TO THE GRAVE

http://www.kissonline.com/kasket/body.html

Apparently this is genuine - for $4,700 you can prove you're the ultimate fan of poodle rock band Kiss, by being buried in this Kiss Kasket. It's to die for! (Can also be used as ice-cold drinks cooler).

Currently touring with Norah Jones, this independent New York troubadour has had a song covered by Art Garfunkel and counts Randy Newman and Roman Polanski among his fans. Buy the album from his site, CDBaby.com or Amazon and listen through to the end for the punchline.
