What is i-drive?
i-drive is an Internet Drive. It's a Hard Disc In The Sky. It's a Celestial Hard Drive.
i-drive can be used to store infinite amounts of digital information. Any content you find on the Web can be transmitted to and saved in your i-drive.
While your computer might get full up or your browser overloaded with bookmarks, i-drive is unlimited. What's more, it can be accessed from anywhere with a Web connection.
Use it to store items which may become outdated or updated; also use it to send me digital content.
In specific relation to tobyslater.com, i-drive is used in two main ways.
1) Clip to i-drive.
By pressing this button, the page you are viewing can be transferred to your i-drive space. Imagine you are browsing tobyslater.com and come across an article or a picture you like. You might not have the time to examine it closely or would like to keep a digital copy for yourself. Simply clip the article to i-drive and it will be stored in your own personal space.
*instructions*
From an article or picture page, for example, press "clip to i-drive"; this will open up a login page. If you are registered, simply type in your username and password and press "login". If not, press "sign up now", enter your details, and press "accept" at the bottom of the page. Your selection will automatically be transferred to a new i-drive space for you. To log in to i-drive again, visit http://www.idrive.com and type in your name and password.
2) Open my i-drive
I have an i-drive too. If you want to send something to me, whether it be an MP3, an image, a Word or HTML document, plain text or anything else in digital form, simply upload it to my i-drive. NB do not ever send me attachments via e-mail: always upload them to my i-drive.
*instructions*
Go to the Contribute page, for example, press "open my i-drive", click "add to dropbox", look to the "Upload" section on the right, press 'browse' and choose an item to upload from your hard drive, then press "Upload" (at the bottom)
Other functions
i-drive has many other functions.
*View items in your i-drive by size, shape, type and colour
*Drag and drop items from your desktop through Internet Explorer into your i-drive.
*You can share files with friends or colleagues, setting passwords to allow access to different people.
*Send files from your i-drive to e-mail addresses.
*Many sites other than just tobyslater.com use i-drive: for example ZDNet, Scour.net and the New York Times. You can even build up a playlist of MP3s from Scour and stream them from your i-drive.
