We have built a dynamic discounting system so that the more you buy, the bigger the savings you can benefit from. One reason for building the discount system is that our credit card charges are very high, with a fee of 85 pence charged to every transaction even before the credit card company takes its percentage. As a result if you buy one MP3 file for 90p, we will barely earn anything at all. We hope the discounting system will encourage you to choose several items in one session, thus overcoming the problem. It will also be a more convenient way to shop, saving you re-entering your credit card details time and again.
How does it work?
At the end of your shopping session, the computer looks at what items you have ordered and calculates the appropriate discount before sending the charge to your credit card. When you buy more than one item, you get a slightly lower fee; if you buy many items, the discount becomes far bigger still. For example...
MP3 discounts:
One MP3 costs: £0.90
Ten MP3s: £0.65 each
Buying eight MP3s saves you £1.04
Buying ten MP3s saves you £2.50
CD discounts:
One CD costs £4.50
Two CDs are £7 - a £2 discount
Three CDs are £10 - a £3.50 discount
Combination discounts:
One CD and ten MP3s is £10.60 - a £2.90 discount
Two CDs and five MP3s is £9.20 - a £2.70 discount
Two CDs and ten MP3s is £12.77 - a £5.23 discount
The best way to experiment with the discounts system is just to start shopping and see what kind of reduction you get. Bear in mind that we have just launched the store and so will almost certainly make amendments to the discounts and prices in general.
